The large public park at the heart of Sétif is one of the most genuinely pleasant urban parks in northeastern Algeria. It contains an artificial lake, fountains, a small amusement zone with rides for children, and broad shaded paths that fill with families in the afternoons and evenings. A small zoo on the grounds has local wildlife including gazelles and birds of prey.
The park is free and open to all, and it reflects the civic pride that makes Sétif feel livelier than many Algerian cities of comparable size. In the evenings, the paths around the lake are crowded with strollers, vendors selling nuts and sweets, and couples finding a measure of public freedom that is rarer in more conservative Algerian towns. A good place to spend an hour between museum visits.
