A small but lively daily market in the centre of town, busiest in the morning. The market is the meeting point between Gbaya subsistence farmers from the surrounding villages — bringing yams, cassava, peanuts, palm wine, dried fish from the Mambéré river — and traders running goods along the road between Bangui and Cameroon. The combination produces an unusually varied range for a town this size, with manufactured goods from both directions and produce that hasn't sat on a truck.
Watch out for pickpockets in the crowded sections. Bring small CFA-franc notes — change is hard to come by. Bargaining is expected but not aggressive. The grilled food stalls around the edges (chicken, plantain, river fish) make the cheapest and best lunch in town.
