A series of small falls on the Tshopo River, a tributary of the Congo that joins the main river just upstream of Kisangani. The falls drive the small hydroelectric station that supplies (intermittent) power to the city, and the surrounding area has been a popular Sunday afternoon excursion for Kisangani residents for generations.
The setting is striking — broad water, rocks and patches of riverine forest — though the infrastructure is now in poor condition. Easy reach by taxi from the city centre. Combine with a stop at the Wagenya village or the riverfront for a half-day out.
