Old Cairo's Coptic Quarter clusters around the ruins of the Roman Fortress of Babylon and contains some of the oldest Christian churches in the world. The Hanging Church (Al-Mu'allaqa), perched on the fortress's south gate, dates to the 4th century. Nearby is the Ben Ezra Synagogue, built on the site where Moses is said to have been found in the reeds. The whole area is compact enough to explore on foot in a morning.
