This cemetery and memorial are the heart of an El Alamein visit. The rows of graves hold Commonwealth soldiers from the Western Desert campaigns, while the memorial records thousands more whose remains were never recovered.
It is a quiet, formal place, and stronger for that. The scale makes the desert battles feel less like a map exercise and more like a human loss spread across many countries.
