The German War Cemetery stands west of El Alamein in an austere, fortress-like memorial of Egyptian limestone. Its octagonal form is very different from the Commonwealth cemetery, and that contrast is part of the reason to include it in the same circuit.
Inside are memorial spaces and the names of German soldiers gathered from battlefield burials after the war.
