Mont-Bouet is the dense, working market district around the great central market of the same name. The streets are narrow, the crowds dense, and the small alleys behind the main market are lined with tailors, hairdressers, electronics shops and tiny eating joints serving Cameroonian and Gabonese workers.
It is the most genuinely African corner of the city. Bring small change and keep an eye on your bag.
