Peduase Presidential Lodge

The Peduase Presidential Lodge sits in forested hills just south of Aburi on the Akuapem Ridge, about 6 kilometres from the centre of town. Built in the 1950s during the late colonial period, it served as the official retreat of Ghana's presidents, beginning with Kwame Nkrumah, who used it as a working retreat during the early years of independence.

The lodge is not a museum and does not receive tourists in the conventional sense — it remains an active state residence used for government meetings and diplomatic functions. But the setting is striking: the building occupies a commanding hillside position surrounded by mature trees, with views down through the vegetation toward the Accra plains. The approach road passes through the kind of dense, secondary forest that has largely disappeared from this part of Ghana. It is worth knowing about as context for the Aburi area's history, even if access to the grounds themselves is restricted.
