Old Ankasa Village

Old Ankasa is the small bush settlement that sits on the edge of the park, roughly midway along the 6 km walk from the Sunkwa junction to the park entrance. It is one of those places that exist at the boundary between the human world and the forest — the villagers here have lived alongside the park for generations, farming, hunting, and collecting forest products.

Stopping here makes a good rest on the walk in. Locals will offer palm wine, palm liquor, and whatever fruit is in season, and a little conversation goes a long way. There is a guesthouse on a hilltop above the village, run by a person long known locally as "the Frenchman," with decent views over the forest canopy and a cool breeze — it serves as a basic but characterful overnight option before pushing on into the park.
