Nini and Suhien Rivers

Three rivers traverse Ankasa Conservation Area — the Ankasa, the Nini, and the Suhien — and following them into the forest is one of the best ways to move through the park. The rivers run through rapids and occasional small waterfalls, and their banks are where wildlife congregates, especially in the dry season when water elsewhere is scarce.

The Nini Suhien section (the northern part of the conservation area) is where the largest river systems run, and guides from the base camp can lead walks along their courses. These riverine areas are particularly good for watching primates, waterbirds, and — if you're patient and quiet — the occasional forest elephant coming down to drink.
