Brong-Ahafo lies in the mid-west of Ghana, sandwiched between Ashanti Region and the Côte d'Ivoire border, with Sunyani as its capital. It's one of Ghana's less-visited regions, which means fewer crowds and a more authentic experience than the heavily touristed south.
The main draws are natural: the Kintampo Falls, one of Ghana's most impressive waterfalls, and the nearby prayer rock park; and the Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, a sacred forest where Colobus monkeys live alongside the community and can be approached on foot. The region makes a good stop on the road north towards Tamale and the upper regions.
