Busua Beach

Long palm-fringed beach with the calmest swimming on the coast

The long sweep of white sand a fifteen-minute walk through the bush from Dixcove. Busua faces the open Gulf of Guinea, but a rock reef offshore breaks the worst of the swell — the result is one of the calmer swimming beaches in Ghana, and one of the few places on the coast where surf instructors operate.

The village strung along the beach has a handful of beach bars, mid-range guesthouses, and a couple of restaurants serving grilled fish, jollof rice, and cold Star beer. It is busier and slightly more touristed than Dixcove proper but still small, and the long stretch of beach absorbs everyone. The path between the two villages takes you through a shaded patch of bush — local kids walk it daily and will happily guide you if you look lost.

A story
Busua is one of the few places on the Ghanaian coast where the surf is consistent enough — and the sea calm enough between sets — to support a small surf school. Boards and lessons are available from local instructors on the beach.
