The natural harbour below Fort Metal Cross is the centre of village life. Wooden fishing canoes painted in primary colours are pulled up on the sand or moored offshore; in the late afternoon and early evening they return with the day's catch.
The fish market that follows is informal — women buyers gathering on the sand to bargain with the crews — but anyone is welcome to wander through. Shark, swordfish, kingfish, and lobster come ashore depending on the season, and prices for a whole fresh fish to take to a guesthouse cook are a fraction of what you would pay in Accra. Bring small denomination cedis and patience.
