Bisa Aberwa Museum

Private museum of African and Pan-African artefacts

A surprisingly ambitious private museum on the road between Sekondi and Takoradi, founded by the writer and pharmacist Nana Kobina Nketsia V. The collection covers Akan regalia, gold weights, masks from across West Africa, and a strong section on the African diaspora — material from Brazil, the Caribbean, and the southern United States set against its West African parallels.

The displays are dense and the labels detailed; allow at least two hours. The museum also functions as a cultural centre with occasional talks and performances. It is the best single introduction to the region's history before you head off to walk among the forts.
