Mole National Park

Ghana's largest wildlife reserve, famed for walking safaris with elephants

Ghana's largest wildlife reserve lies about 150 km west of Tamale and is home to over 90 species of mammal, including elephants, buffalo, antelopes, baboons, and the occasional leopard. The park is best known for its walking safaris — trained guides lead you on foot through the savanna, and close elephant encounters are common. The Mole Motel, perched on a cliff overlooking a watering hole, offers front-row seats at sunset when the animals come to drink.

The road from Tamale is rough and the journey takes several hours by bus or shared taxi. Most visitors spend at least two nights.
