Keita Fodeba Centre for Acrobatic Arts

National centre for acrobatic and circus arts

Named after the choreographer and politician Fodéba Keïta — founder of the Ballets Africains, briefly Guinea's interior minister, and ultimately one of Sékou Touré's most prominent victims at Camp Boiro — the Centre Fodéba Keïta is Guinea's national training school for acrobatic and circus arts. It is one of the most respected institutions of its kind in Africa, and its graduates regularly join Cirque du Soleil and other major international touring companies.

The Centre is primarily a working school, but performances are occasionally open to the public — check at the gate. Even if you cannot catch a show, the building and the adjacent rehearsal yard are an interesting reminder that Guinea's cultural ambitions in the early independence years were enormous, and that some of the institutions built then still function.
