Tamara Lighthouse

The lighthouse on the southern tip of Ile Tamara has been guiding ships into Conakry harbour since the early twentieth century. It is a slim white tower set on a low headland, still operational, and one of the few obviously man-made landmarks on the island.

The walk out to it from the nearest landing point is a couple of hours through forest and along the shore. There is no formal access -- ask the keeper and you may be allowed to climb -- but most visitors come for the headland itself, which gives a long view down the West African coast.
