Nthenge Njeru Falls

A double waterfall in the Kirimiri Forest on the outskirts of Runyenjes, one of the most accessible natural attractions in Embu County. The twin cascades drop through dense riverine vegetation — a mix of indigenous forest and cultivated land — into a rocky gorge, and the surrounding forest provides habitat for over 50 species of birds. The falls are particularly impressive in the wet seasons (March-May and October-November) when the Thuchi River is in full flow.

The walk from Runyenjes town to the falls takes about 30-45 minutes on a footpath through farmland. No formal facilities, but the path is clear and the local community is accustomed to visitors. The Kirimiri Forest walk continues beyond the falls into the forest proper — a cooler, quieter environment than the town centre and a good place for birdwatching in the morning.
