Otter Point is the rocky promontory at the southern end of Chembe beach, where the granite hills tumble straight into deep water. It is the closest serious snorkelling and dive site to the village — clear water, large boulder formations, and a particularly heavy concentration of cichlid species in the shallows around the headland.
Most local lodges and dive schools will organise a short boat trip out to the point, or you can swim out from the beach if you are a strong swimmer (be aware that the wind can pick up suddenly in the afternoon). The name comes from the otters that were once common on this stretch of shoreline; you might still see them at dawn or dusk.
