St Peter's Cathedral is the sight that lifts Likoma above being only a pretty lake island. Built in the early 1900s from local stone, it is huge for such a small place, with Gothic arches, a cloister, and twin towers that look almost improbable among the palms and sandy tracks.
Ask locally about climbing the tower. The view back across the island and over Lake Malawi gives the cathedral's scale a proper setting.
