The main market in Kasungu is busiest on Tuesdays and Fridays, when smallholders bring in vegetables, dried fish from Lake Malawi, secondhand clothes, and a thick concentration of tomatoes, onions, and groundnuts from the surrounding farms. The atmosphere is genuine and unpretentious — Kasungu is not on the tourist circuit, and the market is for locals first.
Watch your bag and your wallet, but otherwise it is a friendly place to spend an hour.
