Curepipe Botanic Gardens

The Curepipe Botanic Gardens — officially the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden of Curepipe — are the second largest botanical gardens in Mauritius, after the famous Royal Botanic Gardens at Pamplemousses. They occupy a compact but well-laid-out site and have a particular strength in endemic Mauritian plants, including Trochetia boutoniana, the island's national flower, known locally as boucle d'oreille (earring) for the shape of its delicate pink blooms.

Entry is free, and the gardens are maintained to a high standard. A Victorian bandstand occupies the centre of the lawn; shade trees make this one of the cooler spots in an already-cool town. The gardens are at their best in spring (September–November) when the flowering trees are in bloom. They make a pleasant hour's walk, particularly combined with a stop at the adjacent natural history exhibits.
