Belle Mare Beach

Belle Mare is widely considered one of the finest beaches in Mauritius — a long, uncrowded stretch of white sand on the northeast coast, protected by the outer reef and fronted by the characteristically translucent turquoise water of the Mascarene lagoon. The beach runs for several kilometres, and even in high season there are sections far from any hotel where you can find space.

The water is calm and shallow for a long way out, making it excellent for swimming. Reef snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips are available from the beach at several points. There are no beach bars in the resort-strip sense, but vendors work the beach with cold drinks and coconuts. The best access for non-resort guests is at the public beach access points north of the main hotel cluster — look for the signposted gaps in the coast road.
