Rock Climbing

Todra Gorge is one of the top rock climbing destinations in Africa and draws climbers from across Europe, particularly in spring and autumn when the temperatures are best. The walls offer over 450 pre-bolted routes across all grades, from easy slabs suitable for beginners to demanding multi-pitch lines that reach 500 metres.

The main concentration of single-pitch sport climbs is in the Petite Gorge and around Plage Mansour near the canyon entrance, where around 30 routes between 5a and 6b are packed into a short stretch. For longer objectives, the main gorge wall offers multi-pitch adventures including the famous Berbertraum. Local guides are available from the hotels at the gorge mouth, and most can organise equipment rental for those who arrive without gear. You can climb year-round because there is always a face in sun or shade, though avoid the midday heat of midsummer on south-facing walls.

A story
Todra Gorge has over 450 bolted routes. The multi-pitch Berbertraum — 13 pitches, 340 metres, grades 4a to 5c — follows a line straight up the Aiguille des Palmeraies and is considered one of the great moderate alpine rock routes in Africa.
