The Palais du Zarmakoye is Dosso's most important building, a walled royal compound in the centre of town and the seat of the traditional Zarma ruler. Its architecture is not monumental in a European sense, but that is part of its power: thick walls, enclosed courtyards, and quiet ceremonial spaces express authority without needing height or ornament.
Visits depend on local permission and timing. Even if you only see the exterior, it helps explain why Dosso matters in Nigerien history. This is one of the few places in the country where traditional leadership, colonial-era administration, and present-day town life are so visibly layered together.
