Maradi's Artisans' Center brings together blacksmiths, jewellers, and leatherworkers, many of them Tuareg, in a working compound with a shared shop. The stock is less varied than in Niger's larger tourist centres, but prices are often fairer and the work is interesting to watch.
Do not treat it only as a place to buy souvenirs. Take time to see the metalwork and leatherwork being made, and accept tea only if you have time for the proper three cups.
