The Emir of Bauchi Palace is the city's strongest link to the Bauchi Emirate, which emerged during the Sokoto Caliphate period in the early 19th century. Its mud-built forms and fortified character belong to the same northern Nigerian building tradition as the old palaces and mosques of Kano, Katsina, and Zaria.
Access can vary, and this is still a living court rather than a polished visitor attraction. Even from outside, it gives Bauchi a historical centre of gravity that ordinary state capitals often lack.
