A small monument by the main road through Dacarbudhuq commemorates Omar Kujoog, who fought the Italian advance into Somaliland during the colonial period. The structure itself is modest — a plinth and inscription — but it is the only formal landmark in the town and a useful place to stop and ask locals about the area's history.
Like much of inland Somaliland, the surroundings are flat acacia savanna with the silhouette of the highlands to the southeast. The town's market and a couple of tea stalls sit a few minutes' walk from the monument, and travellers heading on to Berbera often pause here for a glass of sweet, cardamom-laced shaah.
