The Bluff

Tall forested headland south of the harbour, with nature reserves and quieter beaches

The Bluff is the long forested headland that shelters Durban's harbour from the south, rising to almost 100 metres above the sea. The seaward side has the Bluff Headland nature reserve, a stretch of coastal forest and grassland with monkeys, bushpigs and views down the wild south coast.

Below the headland, the Bluff suburb has quieter beaches than the Golden Mile — particularly Brighton Beach and the surfers' favourite Anstey's — and a more low-key local atmosphere. Watch the container ships round the South Pier from the Bluff Yacht Club for one of the best views in the city.
