Reinet House is the best single stop for understanding Graaff-Reinet's old town. The Cape Dutch building began life as a parsonage and now forms part of the town's museum complex, with period rooms, local history displays and a garden that suits the dry Karoo setting.
It is not a slick big-city museum, and that is part of the point. Come here after walking the streets and the town's age starts to make more sense: frontier church life, wagons, domestic rooms and the slow accumulation of objects from a remote inland community.
