Kings Beach

Kings Beach is broader and calmer than Hobie, and it draws a more family-oriented crowd. The beach stretches in a long, flat arc with gentle surf by Eastern Cape standards — still not quite the placid bathwater of the north coast, but far less churned up than Hobie on a windy day. There are tidal rock pools at the southern end that are good for children, and the flat, hard-packed sand above the tide line is pleasant to walk on in the morning.

The beachfront amenities are modest but functional: parking, bathrooms, a few food kiosks. It gets busy on summer weekends when families from across the city come down, but it's large enough that it doesn't feel crowded. Bayworld is immediately adjacent, making Kings Beach the natural starting point for a day that combines beach time with the oceanarium or snake park. Sunrise here, facing east over the bay, is worth setting an alarm for.
