Bayworld

Bayworld is a sprawling complex on Beach Road that combines an oceanarium, a snake park, and a natural history museum under one umbrella. It's been part of the city's identity for decades, and while it is showing its age in places, it still works well as a half-day outing, especially with children. The dolphin displays and penguin feeding are crowd-pleasers; the snake park has an impressive collection of African reptiles including some of the continent's most dangerous species in well-maintained enclosures.

The oceanarium has the only penguin exhibit in the Eastern Cape, housing African penguins that were rescued from oil spills or injury. The natural history museum section covers the ecology and prehistoric fauna of the Eastern Cape with reasonable depth. The complex is on the beachfront between Kings Beach and Humewood, which makes it easy to combine with a few hours at the beach. Entry is paid; a combined ticket covers all three sections.
