The canal district is the postcard version of St Francis Bay: white walls, dark thatched roofs, little jetties, and water running in from the Kromme River estuary. It is planned and affluent, but visually distinctive enough to be worth a slow look.
Walking gives only partial views because much of the waterfront is private. Boat trips or paddling show the canals better, and they also make the town's unusual layout easier to understand.
