Walk to Lake Togo

The lagoon and Lake Togo lie just south of the town, and a half-day walk through palm groves and small farming hamlets brings you to the water. The route is flat, easy and unspoiled — you pass fishponds, cassava fields, and the occasional shrine — and the lakeshore itself offers a good view across to Togoville on the far side. Fishermen working the lake will sometimes take you for a paddle in their pirogue for a small fee.

Take a hat, water, and small change for the children who will accompany you with great enthusiasm. The walk works well as a way to fill the gap between an early-morning visit to the shrines and an evening return to Aného.
