The Museum of Habib Bourguiba occupies the former presidential residence at Skanes and is devoted to Tunisia's first president, who was born in Monastir and shaped the country's post-independence identity. The displays include personal belongings, official gifts, photographs, furniture, and the kind of state-era memorabilia that tells you as much about power as about the man.
It is most rewarding if you already have some interest in modern Tunisian history. For everyone else it is a secondary stop after the ribat, medina, and Bourguiba Mausoleum.
