Skanes Beach

A long, flat, fine-sand beach stretching several kilometres along the Gulf of Hammamet, lined almost continuously with large resort hotels. The water shelves gently and stays calm, which makes it good for families and for novice swimmers. Sea temperatures peak around 26–27°C in August and stay swimmable from June into October.

Watersports concessions operate from most hotel beaches in summer — jet-skis, banana boats, parasailing, pedalos. The flip side is heavy beach-vendor traffic during the day and a lack of any non-resort character on the strip itself: if you want a coffee or a meal away from your hotel, you'll need a taxi into Monastir. The public sections of beach between hotels are usable but less maintained.

A story
The Skanes strip exists because Habib Bourguiba, Tunisia's first president, was born in nearby Monastir and pushed hard for tourism development along this coast in the 1960s and 70s. The wide gentle bay and the new airport built almost on top of the beach made it irresistible to package tour operators.
