Old Bazaar

Covered bazaar in the centre of the walled town

Despite the damage of the last forty years, parts of Ghazni's covered bazaar still function as the commercial heart of the old town, especially the streets between the citadel and the main mosque. The merchants sell carpets, postin sheepskin coats, dried fruit and nuts, brass and copper work, and the embroidered hats for which the region was once well known.

The carpet section is small but the goods are local: most are simple Pashtun tribal pieces from villages around Ghazni and Paktia. Bargaining is expected and conducted at length over green tea. Visit early in the morning before the heat and dust build up.
