Coiling Dragon Cliff Skywalk

The Coiling Dragon Cliff skywalk is the most dramatic of Tianmen Mountain's three glass-floored walkways, a section of transparent glass-and-steel path bolted to the cliff face above drops of several hundred metres. Entry costs ¥5. The walkway curves along the contour of the mountain's rim, providing views straight down through the glass floor to the forest far below and straight out to the surrounding peaks of the Zhangjiajie area.

For those comfortable with heights, this is an exhilarating fifteen minutes. The views from the cliff edge are unlike anything accessible by normal walking paths — the exposure is genuine and the scale is significant. For those less comfortable: the option to skip it entirely while still enjoying the mountain's other highlights is straightforward. The two additional glass walkways elsewhere on the plateau are shorter and slightly less exposed, useful for easing into the experience.

A story
The Coiling Dragon Cliff skywalk is bolted to the sheer face of the mountain at a height where looking down through the glass means looking at forest canopy several hundred metres below. It is named for the shape of the walkway, which curves along the cliff contour. Several people have declined to complete it and had to be helped back; the glass panels do flex very slightly underfoot, which is either reassuring (they have some give) or alarming (they move) depending on your disposition.
