Nanshan is the Dazu site to choose if you want to see how far the rock-carving tradition goes beyond Buddhist imagery. Its Southern Song niches focus on Daoist subjects, including Zhenwu, the Empress of the Earth, and the Sanqing pantheon.
The cliff is much smaller than Baodingshan, so it suits travelers who have already seen the main site and want a more complete picture of Dazu's religious mix.
