Shimenshan is one of Dazu's smaller rock-carving sites, but it helps explain why the UNESCO listing treats the district as a group rather than a single monument. The cliff preserves Song dynasty Buddhist and Daoist niches, with deities, guardian figures, inscriptions, and artisan marks.
It is not the first stop for a short visit. Go after Baodingshan and Beishan if you are interested in the full spread of religious imagery across Dazu's hills.
