Guandu District

The southeastern district of Kunming, Guandu runs from the southern shore of Dianchi Lake up to the old Wujiaba airport site (the airport itself moved out in 2012 and the land is being redeveloped). The district contains the New Yunnan Provincial Museum, the preserved Guandu Ancient Town, and most of the city's newer hotels and office towers along the long axis of Beijing Road.

The historic Guandu town, with its Ming-dynasty Diamond Throne pagoda and the surrounding alleys, is the main draw for visitors. The rest of the district is a sprawl of post-2000 development that is useful mainly because the metro Line 1 connects it to the airport and the old town.
