Junagadh's Buddhist cave groups are not caves in the dramatic natural sense, but rock-cut monastic spaces carved into the soft stone around the old city. Cells, halls, pillars, and water systems survive in fragments, giving a quiet glimpse of the Buddhist communities that once used this part of Gujarat.
They pair well with Uparkot Fort and the Ashokan edicts, which together make Junagadh much older and more layered than its princely-state monuments alone suggest. The sites can be rough around the edges, but that rawness is part of their appeal.
