Khajjiar

High meadow near Dalhousie, ringed by deodar forest and often nicknamed India's mini Switzerland.

Khajjiar is the classic excursion from Dalhousie: a saucer-shaped meadow set among deodar forest, with the Dhauladhar foothills rising beyond when the weather is clear. The nickname “mini Switzerland” is overused, but the landscape does have an alpine softness that contrasts with the tighter lanes of Dalhousie.

It can be busy with ponies, snack stalls, and photo stops, so manage expectations. The best moments are still simple ones: walking the edge of the meadow, watching mist move through the trees, and using Khajjiar as a gentle mountain day rather than a checklist sight.
