Karumadikkuttan is a small but striking Buddha image near Karumady, close to Alappuzha's backwater belt. The black-granite figure is usually dated to the early medieval period and is one of the clearest reminders that Kerala's religious history once included visible Buddhist communities.
The visit is quiet and brief, but worthwhile if you are interested in the region beyond houseboats and canals. The statue's village setting gives it a very different mood from Alappuzha's busy waterfront: still, local, and easy to miss without looking for it.
