Chandragiri Fort

Ruined 17th-century fort above the Chandragiri River near its Arabian Sea mouth.

Chandragiri Fort is smaller and more ruined than Bekal, but its position is excellent. The laterite walls stand above the Chandragiri River close to the sea, with coconut country and water below.

It was built in the 17th century by the Keladi Nayakas, part of a chain of forts along this coast. Come for the setting and the river view rather than museum-style interpretation.
