A short walk from the Dasashwamedh Ghat sits the Budha Ganesha Temple — "Old Ganesha" — one of the few shrines in India that depicts the elephant-headed god as an elder rather than a child or a stout adolescent. The image is squat and dignified, said to mark Ganesha after he has retired from his usual mischief.
The story behind the icon is local: pilgrims invoke this elderly Ganesha as the remover of obstacles specifically in the realm of death and ancestral rites — which fits Jajpur's larger role as a tirtha for the departed. The temple itself is modest and easy to combine with a riverside walk between the main ghat and Varahanatha.
