The visitors centre is the practical starting point for Auroville. Its exhibitions and short films explain the township's founding ideas, while the cafes, bookshop, and craft shops make it an easy place to pause before or after the Matrimandir viewpoint walk.
It is also where most day visitors sort out current access rules. Do this first, as Auroville is spread out and casual wandering can waste a surprising amount of time.
