Bear Shola Falls

Bear Shola Falls, about 2 km from Kodai Lake, is a small waterfall in a shola forest gully that used to attract bears — hence the name. The bears are long gone, but the forest setting survives and the short walk down to the falls is pleasant. After the monsoon the falls run well; in the dry season they shrink to a trickle.

The path descends through a cool forest of shola trees, and the gully has a humid microclimate that feels distinctly different from the drier pine plantations around the lake. Not a dramatic sight, but a quiet one, and most pleasant in the early morning when the light filters through the canopy.
