Dolphin's Nose is a flat rocky ledge projecting out from the escarpment about 8 km from Kodaikanal, reached by a 6 km trail or a short drive and then a walk. The ledge hangs over a 1,200-metre drop to the valley below, and on clear days you can see across the plains to Dindigul and beyond.
The trail from town passes through pine forest and is a reasonable half-day trek. The ledge itself is broad enough to feel safe, though there are no barriers, and the views on a good day justify the effort considerably. The best time is early morning, both for the light and to catch the valley before the mist burns off. Echo Rock, a large granite outcrop nearby, is another standard stop on the same route.
