Pillar Rocks are three enormous vertical granite columns rising about 120 metres from the valley floor, roughly 7 km from town. They are best appreciated from the viewpoint above, where you can look down on the tops of the rocks and out across the forested ravine. The area is frequently wreathed in mist, which if anything adds to the drama.
The path to the viewpoint from the car park is a short walk. There is a lower viewpoint with a garden, and a higher point that gives the better angle. Go in the morning before the cloud builds, and combine it with a stop at Green Valley Views on the way back toward town.
